LevelTen Employee Spotlight: Frederico Carita
Frederico Carita is Senior Manager of Developer Services, Europe, at LevelTen Energy. Having recently celebrated his one year anniversary as a member of the LevelTen team, we took the opportunity to sit down with Fred and ask him to reflect on his time here so far.
Does LevelTen’s mission resonate with you? If so, why?
If it didn’t, I wouldn't be here! LevelTen’s mission of speeding up the transition to a greener world is one that I’m 100% aligned with. In my opinion, doing this requires the help of technology, and I'm a firm believer in LevelTen's ability to accelerate the renewable energy transition through software innovation. LevelTen’s mission is why I joined the company, and it’s what drives me to wake up every morning and go to work happily.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really enjoy getting to talk with so many interesting people both internally and externally — from the many European renewable developers we work with, to my brilliant LevelTen colleagues. I also love that we work at the intersection of energy and technology: two very challenging and dynamic industries that need to find synergies if our world is to become sustainable. I also love discussing ideas on how to improve our products, getting to help shape them, and seeing them implemented. It’s impossible to get bored!
What do you think is the best perk or benefit LTE offers?
After the pandemic, I don't think I could work at an office five days a week. LevelTen offers me the flexibility to work at the office when I’d like, where I can mingle with my colleagues, but also provides the option for me to work from home. I also get to work in other countries when I'm at conferences, or from my family's place when I’d like to spend time in my home country of Portugal. Being an immigrant, this kind of flexibility is something I value a lot.
What’s your favorite LTE moment/memory?
It’s hard to say, but I really enjoyed the week the European team spent at the LevelTen headquarters in Seattle. It was so great to meet everyone in person after such a long time seeing them on a screen. Everyone was super welcoming, and I had a great time. Can't wait to go back!
What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I love to play and watch sports. I'm a huge football fan, and I support Benfica, my city's team.
Any hidden talents you’d like to share?
It’s always been easy for me to memorize the lyrics to songs, which is something that comes in handy at karaoke. I've been trying, without success, to bring the European team to a karaoke night in Madrid. One day, I will succeed!
What did you do before joining LevelTen?
Before joining LevelTen, I spent more than six years working in vertically integrated European utilities (EDPR and Enel), mainly in origination. I've also worked at a marine conservation foundation in Mozambique trying to protect whale sharks and manta rays around the world.
What made you want to work in the renewable energy/climate tech sector?
The feeling that I'm actually contributing to leaving a better world for future generations. The urgency to do it, and the impact that renewable energy can have, cannot be understated.
